Every Season of a Corgi's Life is a Gift

Understanding your Corgi's life stages helps you know what to expect and how to support them best through every season. Each stage is a gift, and each one requires something different from us.

Puppyhood (Birth to 1 Year)

This is the most critical window for shaping your Corgi's future. Their minds are like sponges, absorbing everything around them. At DnD Corgis, we start Early Neurological Stimulation and Early Scent Introduction at just 3 days old. By the time your puppy comes home at 8 weeks, they've already begun their journey toward confidence.

Your job during this first year is to continue what we started. Socialization is everything. Introduce your puppy to new people, places, sounds, and experiences. This window closes around 16 weeks, so don't wait. House training, basic obedience, and establishing routines all happen during this stage. It can be exhausting, but it's also magical.

Adolescence (1 to 2 Years)

Welcome to the teenage years! Your sweet puppy may suddenly develop selective hearing. They might forget commands they once knew perfectly. They might test boundaries and push limits. This is normal. Stay consistent with training. Cardigans are brilliant but can be stubborn. Patience and positive reinforcement win the day. This stage passes, and what emerges is a mature, confident adult dog.

Prime (3 to 6 Years)

These are the golden years. Your Corgi is mature, confident, and fully themselves. They know you. You know them. The bond you've built is deep and unshakable. Keep them active. Cardigans need regular exercise to stay healthy and prevent weight gain. Continue training and trying new activities. Their mind is still sharp, and they love learning.

Mature Years (7 to 9 Years)

You might notice some gray around the muzzle. Your Corgi may slow down a bit, prefer longer naps, and become more selective about activities. This is middle age—they're seasoned, wise, and still full of life. Adjust their exercise to match their changing body. Keep them comfortable.

Senior Years (10+ Years)

A Cardigan's lifespan is typically 12 to 15 years. Enjoy every moment. Provide soft bedding for aching joints, consider ramps for furniture, and keep up with regular vet visits. Their hearing and vision may fade, but their love never does.

Every stage is a gift. Just as we're called to steward every season of our own lives, we're called to steward theirs.
